NRA Basic CCW Course

This class is currently NOT approved for Concealed Carry Permits in Kentucky. I am working on a modification to this class and applying for Kentucky State Police approval.

Short Description:

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense. The NRA CCW Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation.

More Details:

NRA CCW takes place in a traditional classroom and range environment. This course may be completed in a single day format or over several days with smaller blocks of instruction. Course topics may include: Firearm Safety (Mandatory), Pistol Nomenclature and Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, Drawing from Concealment, Loading and Stoppage Remediation, Mindset, Carry Modes and Pistol Concealment, Firearm Cleaning, and Sport Shooting and Training Activities. Course length is determined by the Instructor, to meet your State’s requirements for a CCW permit. Additionally, students may complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive reference books, take a NRA CCW Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Training Counselor.

This course is also a prerequisite for the NRA CCW Instructor Course, should you later decide to become an Instructor.

NRA CCW Instructor Course

Short Description:

Prerequisites: Student must be an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor (or Advanced Certified Pistol Instructor) for certification as an NRA CCW Instructor.

This certification is NOT available to Apprentice or Assistant Pistol Instructors.

Law Enforcement Division Handgun Instructor is not an acceptable substitute credential either.

Instructor Credentials from any other organization are also not acceptable substitute credentials.

Prior to the CCW Instructor training, candidates must first complete and pass the student level NRA CCW Course, and also have a current BIT course as per NRA Training Policy.

Description: Course may be presented in three parts: Basic Instructor Training, discipline specific instructor training and the Live-Fire Range instructor training. This course is listed as a 22 hour course, including a BIT class. If your BIT is current, the course is 16 hours long.

Instructor Candidates demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and must pass a written instructor certification examination.

Additionally, the Instructor Candidates must pass the CCW Instructor Level shooting qualification Course of Fire. The NRA CCW Instructor Course will focus on developing the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for Instructor Candidates to teach carrying and using a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence.

As a result of participating in this course, the Instructor Candidate will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: How to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm, basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal defense, clearing common stoppages, and more.

As a Certified Instructor, you can also mix and match the modules listed above, and / or create new courses and different levels of existing courses. This is an entirely new direction for the NRA .

• Course price:  $575.00 includes Basic Class, BIT class and discipline specific modules. Note: This price includes the prerequisite BIT class which is conducted free of charge for instructor candidates.

NOTE: IF you already have taken the Basic CCW course, AND have a completion certificate, either from me, or another instructor, the $575 price doesn’t apply to you, since that price includes the Basic CCW course. The non-refundable registration fee for students that already have the Basic CCW completed is: $425.00
